The Coronavirus has brought our normal way of life to halt, we have all had to make changes & sacrifices.

This year’s Kilmovee 10k fell foul of the pandemic meaning hundreds of runners, joggers, and walkers who raise thousands of euros each year for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and a dedicated committee with a free Easter weekend.

But sitting by in self-isolation just wasn’t on the cards.

What good could come out of this crisis? How can Kilmovee 10k help and continue with something different?

Seeing the news each evening, seeing how the frontline workers are struggling with equipment sparked the imagination of one of the members who came up with the idea to do a simple fundraiser on kilmovee10k.com

That idea was to raise 10,000 Face Masks for frontline medical workers – A mask a meter.

A form was put on the site and shared with local and national media along with an effective social media campaign, it wasn’t long before the funds started to arrive with 200 masks funded in the first hour.

Donations continued to be made from all around the country, Europe and worldwide.

Since the launch of the appeal, we’ve had almost 300 donations through the website along with a number of cash donations made to committee members.

As the appeal drew to a close at the significant time of 1 pm on Saturday 11th April 2020 the time the 11th Kilmovee 10k would have started we are delighted to be able to announce that with the assistance of a benefactor that wishes to remain anonymous we have now significantly surpassed the target. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

We have also decided on who will be the recipients of the masks but these organizations need to be contacted first and a further press release will be made shortly after the masks have been distributed.

On behalf of Kilmovee 10k we would like to thank everyone for their incredible support and donations, it is very much appreciated and thank you on behalf of the front line medical workers who we know will be moved by the amazing gesture made by everyone.
